Thursday Thirteen - Vacation

So, I just got home today from being on vacation for five days. I went to Myrtle Beach, SC with a friend and her kids for Spring Break. Here's 13 things that happened during my vacation...

13 Vacation Happenings...

1 - My daughter took her first steps.

2 - My friend decided I was crazy because after she went to bed each night I stayed up to check blogs and to read and write.

3 - I read and reviewed All the Trees in Pearl.

4 - My daughter ate sand.

5 - My friend's son fell on a playground and busted his bottom lip (we determined that an ER visit wasn't necessary, thankfully).

6 - I realized how little you can actually do on vacation with 3 children under the age of 3.

7 - We watched Pete's Dragon - like 12 times.

8 - I learned to play backgammon.

9 - My daughter went in the pool for the first time - and loved it!

10 - I reaffirmed my decision to not have any more kids.

11 - We spent up to 5 hours a day stuck in our room because the kids didn't want to nap on the same schedule.

12 - I learned that it takes over a half hour to pack up and five people to carry everything you need to take 3 small children to the beach/pool.

13 - I realized how much help my husband actually is and how much I missed not having his extra set of hands to help out.

Congratulations on your daughter's first steps! You are now entering a world where she will get into more than you ever dreamed possible! :)

I understand what you mean about kids and vacation. It's hard when they're little, but in a couple of years it will be so much fun.

Great TT!

Yes! Sadly, I now need a vacation from my vacation. Unfortunately, what I came home to is my house converted into a bachelor pad in my absence and plenty of other work to catch up on. *sigh*

But I must say I did really enjoy the time with my daughter - she was mostly a complete angel and a real joy to be with.

Sounds like you had a great time despite some of the frustrations that come with upsetting routines and doing new things.

Congrats on the first steps and loving the pool!

Awww! Congrats on those first steps. And on the swimming and sand eating. Hey! It's all a rite of passage. Think of the fun you'll have one day embarrassing her with these stories!

How exciting to see so many firsts for your dd. Hugs on the split lip. My ds came homw with road rash from skate boarding and I'm still wondering if I should have taken him in.

Okay, my brain just can't reconcile "vacation" with "three children under three", LOL! They seem to be mutually exclusive.

Ahh, yes. I remember those frustrations. They DO pass and things get better and vacations get more fun. We were in Niagara last summer (ages four and six -- the kids, not me and the Tour Manager!) and had a ball.

Even if it wasn't what you'd hoped for, at least you got a change of scenery. That's important, as is teaching the little ones how to deal with the changes that travel brings.
